Life in Pittsburgh

So here I am. Half a citizen of this “elite” school. The school is really small (think half the size of FHM or a third of TUM). However, of those 7000 students, 3000 are grads. So everything here breathes RESEARCH.
The school is reaaly new, even for American Standards (think in the 1920, during the great age of Pittsburgh). But as we are in the States, it has more Grandeur than LMU. I feel kind of left out however. I sit the whole day at the lap and have no clue how school life is actually lIke here. But than again, the work is pretty interesting. I’ll detail that on a future blogpost.
Pittsburgh itself is much better than it’s name. The city, spread out between two rivers has a pretty nice air to it. The city itself (downtown) lies in between steep hills on all sides. It’s the slopiest city I’ve seen so far, I think. If you believe good old Wikipedia, it’s the City in the States with the most inclines in this country. Beats the shit out of San Fransisco in that respect for sure.
Besides driving through substantial parts of the city, I haven’t actually seen too much of it yet. But the life I got to see so far was really cool. The confluence, all the bridges and the two rivers add a whole lot of flair, as so the beautiful views from one if the many hills onto the city. Sadly, I still don’t have a camera. So you guys will get a flickr shot instead :) .

So long for now. There’s more to come!

PS: those who wonder about the “half citizen” thing: I have a CMU ID card, however I did not yet get my Andrew ID. The computer freaks in my humongus readership might recongize that. Andrew (after both original donor to the school, Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon) is the main Mail and Authentification System at Carnegie. All access to (digital) services is done of that system. Basicly mytum in working :)
